According to its organisers, LIGNA is the world's leading trade fair for plant, machinery and tools for woodworking and wood processing.
The fair is organised by Deutsche Messe AG together with VDMA Woodworking Machinery and takes place at the Hanover exhibition grounds. From 2027 it is held in odd-numbered years in spring and no longer tied to the Ascension Day holiday: LIGNA 2027 runs from Monday 10 to Friday 14 May 2027, and the next edition follows from 14 to 18 May 2029. The previous edition, from 26 to 30 May 2025, counted 1,433 exhibitors from 49 countries and around 78,000 visitors from 156 countries; 56% of visitors came from abroad. The occupied exhibition space was 114,078 m² across ten halls, two pavilions and an outdoor area.

Setups like this don't happen on the fly. A deployment of this scale takes weeks of preparation: castings, contract handling, shift scheduling, uniforms, catering for the crew, backup allocations for sick leave, and a central dispatcher available seven days a week.
